News

August 15, 2010

On August 14th, 2010, the CWPT held it's 4th stop at Petrinas Tap's & Billiards in Ajax, Ontario. Owner, Frank Kakouris, graciously accepted the ladies once again by adding $250.00 to the prize fund. Not only did 15 ladies show up to compete for the championship prize fund, the tour also held it's very first live streaming coverage over the internet via ustream.tv, for the world to see. Denise Belanger, WPBA pro player and the new CEO of the tour, was really excited to bring live streaming coverage to the event to market the sponsors, the host establishment and especially the rising talent of our Canadian lady players. With a total of 500+ viewers for the day, we were excited to sit and watch the numbers climb to over 500 viewers. For those who missed our streaming, 3 matches were saved for your future viewing and may be seen again by visiting http://www.ustream.tv and search CWPT where you will be able to hear the live commentating by Kristy DeVries, Brittany Bryant & Denise Belanger.

Congratulations are in order for Brittany Bryant of Guelph, for winning tour stop#4 and the very best of luck to you at the 2010 World 9 Ball Championships in Shenyang, China. Also representing Canada are, Veronique Menard of Montreal, Quebec, and Denise Belanger of Toronto, Ontario. The very best of luck ladies, have fun!

On August 5, 2010 the CWPT had decided to hold a fundraiser for the ladies going to China and as of the 15th, we have managed to raise $1,650. At this time we would like to thank Anne Craig, Frank Kakouris, Darren Corsten, Lisa Marr, Michael Toscano, Jennie Malloy, DaBombSquad aka Shelley St.Thomas, Anne Sinclair, Diana Yeoman and to 3 other anonymous people who graciously assisted the ladies in going to China. All these people wanted me to wish the ladies the very best of luck. Thank you all so very much for your generous donations!!

Stay tuned for story and updates regarding event#4.

August 5, 2010

Hello and good day to you all, I hope this day finds you well. As you know billiard players from around the world strive to excel in a sport that doesn't receive much recognition and support from corporate companies. We as presidents & CEO's work hard to change the opinions of many onlookers whether it be at the local pool hall, the news or even through ESPN by marketing their brand names.

It is at this point I look to you our friends and fans of women's billiards for assistance in helping 3 of our very own recognized female billiard players from Canada, Brittany Bryant, Veronique Menard and Denise Belanger. These 3 ladies have been selected to represent Canada at the upcoming 2010 Women's World 9 Ball Championships in Shenyang, China on August 26th - 29th, 2010. I am asking if you would be so kind in donating a fund of your choice to assist these 3 ladies for help in travelling costs & hotel. All funds collected will be split accordingly. Those wishing to assist and become a sponsor of these ladies will be recognized through the CWPT website as well as the ladies personal websites http://www.brittanybryant.com, http://www.denisebelanger.ca or Facebook pages Veronique Menard.

At this point I would graciously like to thank you all in advance for your kind support. Below is a list of options for your generous donation. Please click on the desired button of your choice. Please be advised we will only be accepting donations up until August 22nd, 2010 or once we've reached our goal of $4,000. Please stay tuned for further news on our funds raised.

It is with great enthusiasm that Anthony Palma of Main Street Productions is in production on the independent feature film “9-Ball” with a great cast including real life International pool champion, Jennifer Barretta playing the lead role of Gail, the young woman who is striving to become a professional and then the champion. Tony Palma, producer and director of “9-Ball” is quoted as saying, “It’s great to be in production on this exciting and dramatic independent feature film '9-Ball.'”

Palma is quoted as saying, “The story “9-Ball” has been compared to “The Hustler” and ‘The Color of Money.” My intention is to produce the first great pool movie that focuses on women in pool especially a young woman whose goal it is to become the women 9-Ball Champion and all the hurtles she has to overcome to reach her goal. I have the pleasure of working with one of the world’s top professional 9-Ball pool players, Jennifer Barretta who knows from her real life experiences exactly what it takes to become a pool professional and then a 9 ball champion. Jennifer Barretta is quoted as saying, “This project is the most exciting thing happening in pool right now and I'm thrilled to be a part of it. "9 Ball" is destined to become a classic.”

As you know Toronto has one of the biggest film festivals where all kinds of stars flock to view opening debut movies. Tony is in need of Canada's help, so by joining the facebook fan page and requesting to see this movie here in Canada, would be a tremendous leap for Tony and his crew, as well as all aspiring female billiard players. Please join me in the facebook fan page http://www.facebook.com/9ballthemovie to get a better understanding of where the scenes are at. Please share your questions or thoughts on the wall of 9 Ball the movie.

June 2010

CWPT would like to congratulate Krista Walsh, winner of the ladies Amateur 9 ball Canadian Championships,

Veronique Menard, winner of the ladies 8 Ball Canadian Championships

& Naomi Williams, winner of the ladies 9 ball open Canadian Championship.

All 3 ladies played exceptionally great and I am honored to announce your recognition through the CWPT website. Please join me in congratulating all 3 of the ladies via the facebook group page Without a recognized women's billiard tour here in Canada, these 3 talented ladies were able to achieve the Canadian title, which has been no easy task over the years. With that being said, I would also like to mention that this years participant in the 2010 Women's World 9 Ball Championships is Miss Naomi Williams. We wish you the very best of luck Naomi. I would also like to advise that our very own Brittany Bryant, will also be representing Canada at the World Junior 9 Ball championships. This will mark Brittany's last year as a junior and we wish her the very best of luck as well.

It is every female pool players aspiration to become a champion and, without leagues which make you a stronger player and tours which promote tournament play that take you to a whole different level, I believe that each of our personal growth is what we put back into the game. I know it is extremely hard to travel across Canada in order to compete, and that is why we are coming to you. The CWPT has decided to once again jump on board with Canada's governing body CBSA, to see if we can re-build this sport for the aspiring lady players. In order to do so, I personally need your help in asking your local pool room owners if they would be willing to hold regional events in your area. Organization of the 2011 season is underway and I need your help! Please send me an email at denise@cwpt.ca or you may call me 1-888-429-7889.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Respectfully,

Denise Belanger

Presidents Message

On May 14, 2010, Sue Sepp of the Canadian Women's Pool Tour stepped down as the CEO from the tour to pursue other endeavours. Please join me in thanking Sue for her time and commitment as we wish her the best of luck.

It is with great enthusiasm that I, Denise Belanger, have decided to step in as your new CEO to promote the tour and all of it's sponsors/players for years to come. I look forward to rebuilding this sport of billiards for women, not only in Ontario but also across Canada. Without a recognized tour, women today wouldn't be able to compete not only at an amateur level but also at a professional level.

With the tour already scheduled for the 2010 season we will be looking towards a brand new 2011 season, with great aspirations such as; expanding across Canada, attracting more players, venues, sponsors in order to promote the game of billiards.

This is a team effort and I look forward to working with our current board members. Please join me in welcoming Julie Rambali our webmaster, Corrine Johnson our sponsor relations director, & Krista Walsh our Treasurer. You can reach any one of these ladies in the contact tab if you require any assistance. If you wish to be a part of the team, please send me an email at denise@cwpt.ca to get a jump start on the 2011 season. Thank you, I wish you all much success!

Respectfully,

Denise Belanger - Ceo/President
