She’s Back
On July 16, 2011 BigWigs Billiards in Newmarket, ON, Canada hosted the very first stop of the Tiger Canadian Women’s Pool Tour for the 2011 9 ball season. Although there weren’t many women players on hand to showcase their talent, there was one young lady in particular who had graced us with her presence. Marina Linguerri, does that name ring a bell? Miss Linguerri was first spotted on hand a few years back and comes to us from Ottawa, Ontario just a few hours east of Toronto. Linguerri, sponsored by The Winning Stroke, suddenly disappeared from the pool scene for a couple of years, now she’s back! Marina is no stranger to competing. In fact, her biggest competition to date was playing in the Women’s Professional Billiard Association about 2 ½ years ago where she met up against fellow WPBA and one of the world’s best female pool players, Jeanette (The Black Widow) Lee. I spoke with Marina as she described her match to me and I could hear the excitement in her voice while she was telling me the scenario. Linguerri stated she had the Black Widow down 7-4, however, Jeanette got to the hill first on a race to 9. Marina stated she fought hard to get back to tie the match up. Low and behold what did this little package do? She beat the Black Widow who has by far created the image that only most women dare to dream of. Marina travels to and from Ottawa with her Mother who supports her daughter in every possible way she can. I really have to hand it to her, she is a trooper! It's mothers like this that set the bar by supporting their children with whatever their dreams may be.
There were a few upsets in matches throughout the day. Hanna Kwon drew veteran player Denise Belanger and went hill-hill, but succumbed to Belanger’s knowledge of the game. Hanna then went on to win a couple of more matches, but she ended up losing to Krista Walsh whom she recently beat at the Canadian 8-ball Championships. It clearly seemed that Kwon’s injury from her car accident got the best of her that day.
With the night winding down, another new player to the tour at only 14 years of age, little Kayla Roloson took the drive from the London area with her parents and sister on hand rooting for her. Her uncle, I believe, was also watching on the live stream where he witnessed Kayla defeat Miss Belanger 6-8, thus knocking her out of the event. Roloson then ended up coming short in her efforts and lost to Krista Walsh 7-3.
The finals were set which promised to be a great match. It was viewed through our new official live streaming channel that the tour implemented this past year. This is the link for future reference: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/canadian-women-s-pool-tour.
Both ladies had to race to 9 and both ladies capitalized when the other made mistakes. The score after the first four games was tied at two apiece and then went game for game up until game 10 where Walsh pulled ahead 6-4. Linguerri quickly tied it back up in game 12. Walsh then pulled ahead again sitting on the hill and then out of nowhere this little firecracker blew up the dynamite right before her eyes to capture the title of the Tiger CWPT ladies 9 Ball Challenge. Linguerri had wins over Donna Sasges 7-1, Krista Walsh, 7-5, Kayla Roloson 7-2 and then Walsh again 9-8. Congratulations to Marina Linguerri and Krista Walsh for taking home trophies and cash prize. Please join us on hand via the CWPT fan page on Facebook by acknowledging these ladies. Simply search Canadian Women’s Pool Tour and give these ladies a hand!!!
At this time I would like to thank Tiger Products.com, Delta 13.com, Tweeten Fibre co, CSC Blinds, CPA Southern Ontario Pool Leagues, as well as to Ken Bothom & Rob Blair of BigWigs for your ongoing support of the ladies of the tour. To those reading this we would appreciate you visiting our sponsor’s pages via the CWPT website and let them know you heard about them through the CWPT website.

The time has come to pull out the cues buff and wax them and get ready for the start of the women's 9 ball season. This year we will be having 4 events which will earn one of our beautiful ladies a crack at the Women's Professional Billiard Association as seen on ESPN & TSN, Canada's sport network.
Last year was exciting for one of our veterans, well when I say veteran, I actually mean young lady. I mean come on who hasn't heard of Brittany Bryant! Brittany has been an avid player here in the CWPT organization for a few years now and I would like to think that the CWPT has assisted in helping her achieve her dreams. Brittany earned her chance at the WPBA a couple of years ago and since then, she has gone on to earn a ranking of 20th while on tour. Not only that, Brittany earned her television debut last December while playing against one of WPBA's finest, Karen Corr. Despite losing, it was one small step for Canada's rising talent. Congratulations Miss Bryant and keep us proud!
I wanted to recognize Brittany for her achievments, not only is she a great ambassador to young women, she is also a huge role model in this game we call billiards.
Our first event will take place tomorrow July 16, 2011 at BigWigs Billiards, which is located at 1228 Stellar drive, Newmarket, Ontario, this event promises to be exciting as some of Canada's top notch talent will be on hand competing for the first place cash and trophy, as well as points which will be kept up to par for the next 4 months. There will also be live streaming on hand to showcase our amateur talent. This event is open to any lady who is of amateur status and not ranked in the top 40 of the WPBA. The live streaming link can be found at the top left tab where it says live streaming. We hope you enjoy yourselves and see you in the winning circle.

With summer upon us and the kids soon out of school, the pool scene is becoming bigger and better than ever. May was quite a busy schedule for alot of players who are now returning home to get ready for what is the biggest billiard event in Canada just around the corner. The CBSA Canadian Cue Sports Billiard Championships will take place from June 7-18, 2011 at Shooters Snooker & Sports Bar. We hope you will join some of our lady players representing the CWPT tour live or via the streaming page on behalf of Denise Belanger who is donating her time to market all aspects of this beautiful game we call billiards. We would like to congratulate at this time Kayla Jones, Morningstar Williams, Krista Walsh, Kristen Nahmabin, and Denise Belanger who all earned a spot into this years championships. We wish you the very best of luck. Make us proud ladies!!!
Another topic we wish to announce is the VNEA International Championships which were recently held at Balley's Hotel and casino in beautiful sunny Las Vegas. It is with much excitement that I announce a very special team known as DABomb Squad, who went down to compete in the intermediate division as well as single action play. The team placed second overall with over 32 teams from all over the world competing. Well done ladies and welcome to the masters division. It's never an easy task to accomplish this unless you have 4 strong ladies who gel together as a team. On another note, the 4 ladies also competed in singles, of the 4, 2 of the ladies, Diana Yeoman and CWPT's treasurer, Krista Walsh competed and did extremely well. Diana captured a 4th place in the 9ball division, and Kayla Jones went on to earn a 4th place finish in the women's master 8 Ball division. Our very own treasure,r Krista Walsh, went on to finish with a 1st place in scotch doubles, 2nd place in teams, 2nd place in 9ball & 4th place in 8 Ball, which I might add also earned her a spot into the 1st All Star Team for 2011 at the banquet. Wow!!! See what competing in single action play can do for your game. That's right ladies, you too can get involved and earn your titles just as Krista did, as well as many other champions from the past.
Begin your aspirations now and join the CWPT. See the tour structure and rules located in the top left hand corner for more information and don't forget to tell all your pool playing friends about this remarkable ladies tour. Good luck to all participating at the Canadians.
Live streaming can be seen through cbsa website

Congratulations to Tol Kuy & Angie Sicard for winning the Toronto Sick Kids Foundation Charity 8ball scotch doubles extravaganza, which was held at BigWigs Billiards in Newmarket, On. Twenty Two teams signed up to show their support for this remarkable foundation and it went off as planned. Live streaming was set in place for all to view the talent from some of Ontario's amateur players from the many different organizations such as; the Canadian Women's Pool Tour, CPA Southern Ontario Pool Leagues, 404 tour. Without the support from these players, this event would not have been a success as it was with raising a total donation of $1,135 which will be handed over to the foundation this week. The CWPT wishes to sincerely thank all those who helped out with marketing as well as setting up the day of the event. To Jim, Ryan, Krista & Denise for donating the baseball tickets and to all the league players at BigWigs who also held their own fundraising draw before the event. THE JOURNEY

On behalf of Shooters Snooker & Sports Club, owner John White graciously opened his doors to the women of the Tiger Canadian Women’s Pool Tour which held its first stop of the 2011 season on February 26th. With a new year and new board members, the ladies waited patiently for room owners to lend a helping hand. As some of you may know, the billiard world has been rocked with many changes and struggles along the way, thus creating difficult times for tours and room owners to come together as a whole. Only a select few have stepped forward at this time to extend their support of our very own women’s billiard tour that has been promoting women’s billiards here in Canada for the past 6 years. I say, let the journey begin and take a chance on the women!
A total of 28 ladies arrived from all over, even as far as London & Sarnia, Ontario. Each player was extremely excited to be facing off against their own level of play in order to win a spot in the up-coming CBSA Canadian Championships in June 2011. I am extremely proud of you all for stepping out of your comfort zone to support the tour, especially having to play on 9 foot tables.
The Tiger CWPT once again promoted the women via live streaming through the CWPT’s official ustream link: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/canadian-women-s-pool-tour. Please check the tour stop tab for future events.
It was hard to pick a favorite as many of our top amateurs arrived with many different faces the tour had not even seen, such as the Monague clan from Sarnia. I was very excited to see the new players play and they did just that. Keep up the practice ladies and it will come!
Originally just one spot was up for grabs but, due to the amount of support we received, we were able to send two ladies to the championships! The first spot went to Kayla Jones of London, Ontario. Miss Jones went undefeated on the A-side with wins over Lisa Noseworthy 5-2, Kristy DeVries 5-0, Danidee Nailat 5-1, Angela Carrigan 5-4 and Krista Walsh 5-3. Now that was some good playing Kayla and good luck at the Canadians! Wait just a minute, ladies & gentlemen there is still another spot up for grabs! That’s right! Krista Walsh was in the hot seat on the B-side and waiting for an opponent to square off against for that second spot.
The day was getting late, however many of the ladies were not able to come back the second day and with Toronto under a snow storm we were asked if we could finish it in one day. Nearing the end of the night we had a really exciting match on the live streaming table with Angela Carrigan vs. Anne Sinclair. This match would put the winner against Miss Walsh. Both ladies met up earlier in the day with Angela ousting Anne to the B-side with a score of 5-0, unfortunately this was not the case in this match. It seemed as though Anne caught her second wind and began firing balls in from left to right but not before going on with a bang. With hooking herself on the 8 ball and the score at 4-3, she had no choice but to jump the object ball to make the 8 ball in the corner. She graciously walked to her case, grabbed her jump stick, took aim and fired it right in the corner where she then faced fellow team-mate Krista Walsh. It was a long night and both ladies were extremely exhausted. Anne went on to capture the second spot but not before declining it as fast as she won it. Therefore, Miss Walsh has earned her place into the championships in June alongside Kayla Jones. This is what it’s all about ladies and congratulations to each and every one of you for some hard reached goals! Keep up the practice.
We would like to extend our gratitude to all of our sponsors for making this happen. Our title sponsor, Tiger Products.com, John White and staff for your hospitality you simply are the best, Delta13.com our official rack for the live stream table, CPA & Southern Ontario Pool Leagues, Tweeten Fibre & Co. A very special thank you to all our media partners - AZ Billiards.com, Billiard Digest.com, Pool & Billiard Magazine, Inside Pool Magazine, Billard Quebec.com, & The Pool Scene.com.

Williams Crowned Tiger Tour Champion
On November 13th – 14th, 2010, the Tiger Canadian Women’s Pool Tour kicked off with the Tour Championships at Shooters Snooker & Sports Bar in North York, Ontario, Canada. Owner John White and John & Kelly Croft of CPA Southern Ontario Pool Leagues sponsored this annual event to support the ladies in their quest of being crowned the 2010 Tiger Products CWPT Champion of Champions.
Without the support of sponsors an event such as this would not be possible for any lady to be able to improve in the sport of billiards. The tour held 7 stops this past year where a point system was kept to track the overall progress of how one finishes from each event and with that, the end of season awards were beautifully placed for all to see. A product table was also on hand to showcase our sponsor products they so willfully donate to help assist the tour in raising funds for marketing purposes.
The end of the season brought forth a new 2010 Regional Player of the Year and her name is Krista Walsh of Toronto, Ontario, formerly of St John's, Newfoundland. Not only did Krista win this prestigious award, she also took home a cash prize and a personalized CWPT pen and carrying box, as well as the Most Improved Player of the year award.
Second place in the point standings went to Denise Belanger who received a cash prize and a personalized wooden engraved pen and box, Brittany Bryant also received a cash prize plus a personalized pen and box. Congratulations to all.
Tom Cacic our tournament director awarded Nathalie Chabot of Sherbrooke, Quebec with the tournament director’s award for the most sportsmanlike individual.

With the awards presented and the live streaming table set up with our new delta 13 rack the official and only true triangle out there, the ladies were ready for action.
The play began with some strong contingency. Two Canadian amateur champions Hanna Kwon and Krista Walsh were squared off right off the hop and this time Hanna would come out on top forcing Walsh to the B-side. These two I believe will be the next rivals to watch. Kwon would then lose to Denise Belanger placing 5th-6th and earning $50 for being the furthest amateur in the event alongside Danidee Nailat who also earned $50 as they both agreed for the split.
While waiting for the outcome of the Williams/Bryant match on the A-Side final, Sharlene Watkinson who came out of a mini retirement not by choice sat closely watching both ladies on the live stream. I asked Sharlene which player she would rather play, she stated, “Brittany”. I stated, well, ask and you shall receive. Miss Watkinson went on to place 3rd and took home a beautiful 3rd place trophy and cash prize. Congratulations Sharlene a well deserved placement in the tournament.
The final was set and both champions were equally ready. Let me tell you this was no easy cake walk as both Williams and Bryant have been rivals on the green and both are very aware of how each other plays. With a true double elimination at hand Miss Bryant had to beat Williams twice. In the first set Williams was ahead by 3 games but not before Bryant inched her way back and took the 1st set 8-6. In the second set the score was notched at 4 a piece when Williams pulled ahead 6-4. Williams breaks pockets 4 balls off the break with an easy 2 in the corner then pots the 3 leaving her a back cut on the 6 and ending up with a long draw shot on the 7 ball. Williams nails the shot and draws it off the rail for the easy 9 in the corner and taking a commanding lead at 7-4. Bryant breaks makes the 1 in the side and an easy shot on the 2 ball but comes up short on making it in the corner. Clearly not the Brittany we all know, however the game played out in a see saw battle on the 2 but not before Williams pots it in the corner and missing on the 3. Bryant runs all the way to the 8 and goes for the back cut but ends up missing on the 8 and leaving Williams the cue ball in the middle of the table and the 9 ball about 2 inches between the 2nd and 3rd diamond. Williams hesitates and goes for the bank corner brilliantly making it. Miss Williams is crowned your 2010 Tiger Canadian Women’s Pool Tour Champion of Champions. Congratulations!

Krista Walsh, Brittany Bryant, Naomi Williams
Payouts:
1st $610.00 Naomi Williams
2nd $460.00 Brittany Bryant
